Year-Round Field Trips
We are able to accommodate groups of all sizes. The cost for our year-round field trips is $6.50 per person, this includes chaperones. For more information on planning and policies, click here.
Every field trip includes the following programs:
People of the Plantation
Primary Documents are a road map to the past. Students will learn how the stories of the enslaved African Americans on the Davis Plantation were discovered through research at the county archives and through an archaeological dig. Students will also complete a scavenger hunt of the property and will learn how the people of the plantation interacted with the buildings and the grounds.
Students will have an in-depth look at the life of a Civil War soldier in our Under the Gun program. Though a hands on experience, students will travel back to the Civil War and have the chance to see and touch what life would have been for a soldier on the battlefield and in camp. They will also participate in out Hidden Solider scavenger hunt that will have them searching for items scouts, like Sam Davis, may have had in their Haver Sacks.
Plants of the Past
Students will learn the step-by-step process of how cotton was planted, harvested, spun, and woven in order to produce clothing and other items in the 19th century through several hands-on activities. They will then enjoy a "Singing Tree" walking tour of our Arboretum. Closed toe shoes preferred for this activity.
