Days on the Farm and Heritage Days
Days On The Farm: May 10 & 11, 2012
Heritage Days: September 29 and 30, 2011
Where can you find pigs in a pen, a blacksmith making tools, and a spinner who shows how wool is transformed into yarn? You can find all that and more at the 25th Annual Heritage Days (Sept 29 and 30) and the 41st Annual Days on the Farm (May 10 & 11) hosted by the Sam Davis Home. This popular living history celebration will feature more than 20 demonstrations including how to make candles from hot wax and how soap was made from pig fat and lye. With hands-on activities, find out what life was like as a Civil War soldier and how quilts were made to keep people warm during the cold winter months. After you tour the historic home and visit the museum exhibits, stop by the gift tent to pick up a reproduction historical toy or some old-fashioned candy sticks. All are welcome and encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it under the trees while out on the grounds of this historic plantation. Event hours are 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Reservations are only required for groups of 10 or more.
If you are chaperoning a school field trip and/or a Homeschool Group, please note that each car will be expected to pay $5 per person for all those in the vehicle. Therefore, please make sure that when sending in your child's money for the field trip and checking that you would like to chaperone, you do not also send in your money, or you will end up paying twice.
All Parking is separate from the bus parking, so please be prepared to park in a field and walk through our barn to meet up with your child on the front lawn where the buses unload. This is "Farm Days" so please dress accordingly!
