REQUEST FOR WAIVER
SAM DAVIS MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION REQUEST FOR WAIVER
As you may or may not be aware, The Sam Davis Memorial Association “SDMA” has been confronted with ongoing and mounting costs associated with maintenance, repair, and restoration of the various structures on the Historic Sam Davis Home and Plantation property in order to preserve the historical integrity of this unique location. With these escalating needs, it has become apparent to the Trustees and Directors of the Sam Davis Memorial Association that extraordinary measures are needed.
In 2018 the SDMA sought and obtained approval from the General Assembly for permission to sell approximately four (4) acres of land located at the intersection of Sam Davis Road and Nissan Drive in order to generate needed funding. The approval was specifically authorized, with no opposing votes cast, in Public Chapter No. 782 and signed into law by Governor Haslam on April 19, 2018. The Bill also required the SDMA to petition the Tennessee Historical Commission “THC” for a waiver to accomplish this sale. That Petition requesting the waiver was filed with the THC on August 14, 2019.
As with any such filing, there is a process to be followed. If you are interested and wish to know more about the Petition, the reason it was filed, the objectives hoped to achieve and/or the process that is to be followed, you may find this information at:
